Ian Gough, a material manager, lost over 2st in eight weeks on the Hairy Bikers Diet Club Fast Track plan*. His clothes now hang off him, he no longer fears exercise and on top of this the Club has educated him on healthy food choices. Read his weight loss story…

It was in true Hairy Biker style that the moment of truth came for Ian. “I was trying on motorcycle leathers and the jacket size required was a 52 plus, and even these were still tight around the gut. I just thought enough is enough. Now is the time to do it properly and get back to eating the correct foods.”

Before joining the Hairy Bikers Diet Club, Ian was a self-confessed couch potato, but getting back into shape through the diet has helped him get back into a former passion — weight lifting.

While he admits his family thought he was initially on a bit of a ‘fad diet’, he soon convinced them he was serious about losing the weight. “I made myself a promise not to cheat and to stay for the full eight weeks, cutting out pies and chocolate completely. And after a few weeks my family began to realise that I was in this till the end.”

Following the delicious recipe plans and using his online food diary also acted as a healthy food education for Ian. “It hadn’t occurred to me how much I had forgotten about food with regards to proteins, carbohydrates and fats. The weight loss of 1-3kg (2-6lbs) per week really helped motivate me too.”

The weight loss has not gone unnoticed by Ian’s impressed family and friends. “Everyone at work has made comments about how much I have lost and how much better I look. I just wish I had taken photos before the start, as it’s only because the work trousers are a 34 inch and my shirts now hang off me that I really notice.”

There have been other positive results to Ian’s weight loss too. “I don’t have any anxiety about exercise anymore and the thought of having to do any strenuous DIY at home doesn’t bother me now either.”

Like many people in the club, having a dog has been a huge help too. “My wife and I make an effort to walk the dog together every night through the week and go for a long walk in the hills at the weekend too.”

Ian is not stopping here and is truly getting stuck into his new training regime. “My new goal is to gain muscle size and definition while continuing to lose the excess fat around my waist for my summer holiday. The knowledge I have learned about food will help me achieve this.”
