Heidi Rice, a 55-year-old retired psychiatric nurse, lost 4st with the Hairy Bikers Diet Club and dropped from a size 20 to a size 14*. The support from the forums kept her going and all the family enjoyed the healthy meals, which kept her on track. Read her weight loss story…
When Heidi was at her heaviest, she admits that she was putting on a brave face, but behind that exterior was a lady battling self-confidence issues. She reveals, “I kidded myself that the weight didn’t bother me, but it did.”
But thankfully, Heidi experienced a moment of truth when she was shopping with my daughter and she couldn’t find anything nice to wear.
Heidi had tried to lose weight before with other weight loss programs, but found that trying to feed the family alongside preparing her own meals made it all too easy to skip her own meal plan. But with the Hairy Bikers Diet Club the whole family were all eating the same healthy meals and loving them! And in the process Heidi admits she has become a much better and more confident cook!
The Hairy Bikers Diet Club online forums helped Heidi as it allowed her to chat with fellow members going through the same journey and they could all share their experiences, both the highs and the lows. “The forum, alongside my family, really helped as they were both so supportive!”
How has the weight loss changed Heidi? “I have so much more energy and feel less angry. I am so much happier. I can wear nice clothes again, and people compliment me about my weight loss!”

And what’s one thing she can do now that she would have never thought possible? “I can walk into town now without becoming breathless.” Hedi now maintains her new healthy shape and lifestyle with regular dog walks, strolling into town and she has also discovered gardening again.
Heidi’s top tips
- Put a picture of yourself at your tubbiest on the fridge and add a new one every time your weight drops by a reasonable amount.
- Watch out for the dangers of self-deception. Avoid phrases like, “Oh, I’ve earned it” or “oh well, just this once. I’ve been good!”
- Buy smaller plates. Portions still look satisfying, but you’ll feel like you need less,
