Want to lose weight but don’t fancy slogging away at the gym? As we look at alternative exercise classes, we’ve discovered one that will probably rekindle a lot of childhood memories: HulaFit.

We caught up with HulaFit instructor Tina Jimenez, to find out more about an exercise craze that’s sweeping the nation…

WHAT IS HULAFIT?

HulaFit is a fitness class, which uses different sized and weighted hula-hoops. Classes combine exercises such as squats, lunges and burpees with hula-hooping on the waist and other body parts to get a whole body workout, while off-body hula-hooping and tricks challenge your co-ordination and motor skills.

WHO IS IT AIMED FOR?

HulaFit is aimed for anyone looking for a fun way to get fit. From 16 to 65 year olds, all the exercises can be adapted to the individual’s level.

WHY IS IT A GREAT WORK OUT?

It challenges not only your core, but also your strength, motor skills and co-ordination.

WHY IS IT FUN?

HulaFit brings out the child playfullness in us. And when hula-hooping with a group it is a great way to get to know new people. For many people it’s also a real shock that they can now do something they could never do as a child.

WHY SHOULD YOU TRY IT IF YOU ARE LOOKING TO LOSE WEIGHT?

If you are bored with the gym and need to find something fun then this is a great class. Combined with a healthy diet, it is an excellent calorie-burner and is something you can easily practise at home too.
